Source Point Press is celebrating queer horror and looking to raise up new LGBTQ+ voices in comics. LGBTQ+ creative teams are asked to submit to a special one-shot comic of Victorian horror stories, hosted by the one and only Dandy, of The Lavender Society.

“I am thrilled to be hosting a queer anthology with Source Point Press. The intersection of queer and horror is an immutable fact, dahling. We are so othered that we can identify with the monster AND the final girl. Plus I’ve always wanted to be a villainess when I was a child. They have a better wardrobe than anyone else in the world,” says Dandy.

Dandy is the leader of a secret organisation of homosexuals called The Lavender Society. As a former member of the leisure class, this gender clown fop of the aristocracy now travels the world performing in dance halls and saloons as a comedy cabaret artist. You may find him a bit absurd, but if you didn’t you wouldn’t really be looking. He has a passion for sitting as well as watering potted plants!

After performing in Hollywood and all across Canada for the last several years, Dandy has found more celebrity on TikTok- teaching manners, fan language, and other inspiring LGBT content from a high class perspective. Now, Dandy is bringing it all to the comic page by hosting Dandy Presents Penny Dreadfuls, a queer horror anthology in the vain of Tales from the Crypt or the House of Mysteries.

Source Point Press is asking for submissions of 6 to 8 page Victorian horror comic pitches from up-and-coming LGBTQ+ creators. Pitches should include a story synopsis or script along with samples from the art team. Three stories will be chosen for the publication and each of those three teams will receive $500 in prize money.

“This project is dear to my heart, and Source Point is thrilled to be working with one of my favorite performers and Tik Tok legends, Dandy!” says Josh Werner, editor-in-chief of Source Point Press. “The LGBTQ+ community has always been an integral part of horror, and we’re looking to shine a spotlight on some new creative voices in comics.”

Submissions are due on March 29. Three winning pitches will be chosen and contacted by the Dandy Presents Penny Dreadfuls editorial team, led by El Whitcombe and Amber Knapp, on April 4, 2022. Each winning pitch will be assigned an editor to assist in the development of the comic short. The $500 prize money will be sent after receiving the finished comic pages by May 23, 2022.

"Historical fiction is such a great genre for queer storytelling; it lets marginalized folx see ourselves in a setting we were largely erased from, so if you tell me you're gonna marry it with my favorite genre (horror), how could I possibly say no?  I'm so excited to get to help spear-head and edit a project like this, and I'm so happy I get to do it with someone like Amber Knapp. They're an absolute master of horror!” says Whitcombe.

Submissions should be sent through the Source Point Press Submissions portal found on dandypresents.com. Dandy Presents Penny Dreadfuls will be in Diamond Comic Distributors June, 2022 Previews catalog, releasing in August, 2022.

Dandy can be found on TikTok, Instagram, and other social media @dandyandfriends.
